"I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone from Yachad for the wonderful work you did on my house. It was a real pleasure working with the staff and volunteers. They were warmhearted toward me and my family and so helpful in every way. I know my home was in real need of repairs but you all met those challenges with zeal and competence... It was a joy and pleasure working with you all together."
- Yachad Homeowner from Ward 8
WHAT IS YACHAD?
Yachad is a Washington DC, non-profit organization devoted to making affordable housing healthy and safe by remediating and preserving housing. This work serves to reinvest in communities of color, creating and building new wealth for residents. In addition to contractors, our repair programs engage concerned volunteers, enabling repairs at no cost to homeowners and small landlords.
HOW DOES YACHAD DO ITS WORK?
Yachad means “together” in Hebrew. We work together in partnership with other non-profits, neighborhood organizations, houses of worship as well as contractors and client families. We rely for support on individual donations, foundation grants, government contracts.
HOW CAN WE HELP YOU?
If you are a low-income homeowner living in Washington, DC, or Prince George’s County, we welcome your application for health and safety repairs such as: mold removal and pest control; roof, plumbing, electrical and drywall repair; replacement of broken appliances, and accessibility services.
We want help as many people as possible, but we are able to repair only a limited number of houses each year. Yachad prioritizes multigenerational households and families with children. To apply for Yachad’s Healthy Housing Remediation Program please call our office at 202-296-8563 or email at [email protected].
