"By volunteering at Yachad's "We the People", I actually felt like I was celebrating my country. I was helping someone change their life for the better so they could provide a better life for their family."
- We the People Volunteer
We the People is open to individuals and families (ages 14 and up). On almost every federal holiday (MLK Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Veteran's Day) Yachad sponsors the repair of a single family home, community center, or group house in Washington, DC. Yachad provides project management, site supervision and materials for each project. Everyone 14 years of age or older is qualified to participate. Space is limited, so please register (link to application) in advance. Community service hours are granted for high school students. We will guide you through the process and by the end of the day you will have learned construction skills, worked side-by-side with those you are helping to serve, and feel as though you have made a difference in one day.
Please register here . We request a $25 donation from our volunteers to pay for materials and professional costs for the project. This $25 will be matched by a Yachad donor in 2012, so your $25 will turn into $50 donation to the cause.
To give you a better idea of where your donation will go, each of our projects cost around $10,000 in fair market value. We are able to cut these costs in half by bringing in volunteers like you and partnering with professional contractors, but still, we need about $5000 of funding for each project we complete. Your donation will go toward these costs.
Check our website calendar for the next We the People project date.
