Ramp it Up -- with Yachad!    PAST YEARS

Ramp it Up teens have built ramps for clients ranging from elderly Washington D.C. homeowners to suburban young people who were injured in car accidents.  Here's what some of the people touched by the program have had to say:

Ever since the accident, it’s been difficult maneuvering Jean around the house.   Jean has constant doctor visits….  Getting the right person there to help him [exit the house] proved to be difficult at times so some of his appointments had to be rescheduled….  Maneuvering Jean in and out of the house is now effortless because of your gracious gift.  Not only will the ramp improve efficiency, it will help Jean psychologically because he’ll feel more independent.”

“I really wanted to experience something different from the rest of the summer, both working to help out someone of course as well as partly the Jewish extent of it.  It’s really sort of interesting to combine the two and feel what Judaism has to say about it as well as what we’re actually doing to experience it.”

“I felt great because I performed a service that needed to be done.  My SSL hours didn’t come from some college-application-tuffing activity.  I helped a person in need.”

“I think that the program works because of the capable staff and because the kids are given meaningful work….  This truly makes a difference for these protected children.”

“The fact that the [ramp program staff] introduced the students to the young man and his family made that human connection from service project to mitzvah and tikkun olam.”
