Hard Hats and Helping Hands Home Repair Program (5-H)

Check out a recent article published in Washington Jewish Week about the 5-H program. Click here.

“ [Yachad’s Hard Hats and Helping Hands program] is a way, without taking up a lot of time or costing a lot of money, to make a large impact on certain people’s lives….  Our investment is whatever it takes.  It’s not a matter of money or hours; it’s a matter of helping.”

-- Eichberg Construction Chairman John Eichberg

                                                    What

Yachad’s Hard Hats and Helping Hands Home Repair (5-H) program recruits professional real estate and construction people to volunteer their time, labor and often, materials, to repair the homes of lower-income Washington-area residents.  The goal is to organize a highly skilled volunteer labor force that provides greatly needed repair services to lower-income homeowners. A broad range of projects is available, from repairing the plumbing in a single bathroom to repairing the drywall in and painting a few rooms, or an entire house.  Often, money is available to purchase all or a part of the supplies needed.  Yachad works with the homeowner to determine the repairs needed and presents to the contractor or tradesperson the scope of work.  The contractor can then choose to do some or all of what’s needed.
