We the People-Labor Day, September 6, 2009

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

For our We the People Federal Holiday program, we invite individuals to come volunteer for a few hours at a home we are repairing.  This past Labor Day about 15 volunteers came together to work on a home in Southeast DC.  The home belonged to the Cobb Family of three, mother, step father and teenage daughter.  The day was a huge success.

Mitzvahstock Sept. 13, 2009

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Mitzvahstock happened on Sunday, September 13th, in honor of President Obama’s United We Serve and in memory of September 11th.

-14 Jewish non-profits organized the event.

-200 young Jewish professionals volunteered

-two community sites were repaired

Yachad and the DCJCC both ran a site.  Yachad organized their site at Building Futures in Columbia Heights, a building of approximately 30 units that will be permanent housing for people living with HIV/AIDS.

The volunteers did a fantastic job demolishing the old units and paving the way for the new construction. Thanks to everyone involved. For more pictures and to fill out a survey of the day if you were involved, please click here.
